PreS-Gr 2—Pig is sure that Wolf is hiding somewhere on the farm, and he is determined to find him. He searches in the barn, the pig sty, the chicken coop, the pond, and finally the woods. Each time he combs a location, youngsters are encouraged to assist by reaching inside a large flap, which hides a texture that is meant to simulate part of the wolf. The following pages reveal that the textures really belong to other farm animals. Each flap warns children to "BEWARE," which adds to the suspense. The textures are realistic, such as sandpaper suggesting Wolf's feet and sticky tape that imitates his tongue. The climax occurs when a child reaches into a hole in a tree and feels what he believes to be the wolf's nose. The hungry wolf's head then appears as a large pop-up. All the farm animals and listeners are told to "RUNNN!" This book might frighten very young children, but for a slightly older audience, it's sure to be a crowd pleaser. The artwork has bold outlines and bright colors and depicts gentle-looking farm animals. With the assistance of an adult, this book will give an exciting interactive experience suitable for group or lap reading.—Diane Antezzo, Ridgefield Library, CT
