The straightforward writing and occasional photographs will appeal to report writers and curious readers alike. Each volume includes the backstory and development of the specific sport, as well as descriptions of training methods and gear. While some of the topics may be more familiar to readers (racing or horse jumping), others, such as horse polo and eventing, are more niche. The athleticism and range of both the riders and their steeds is clear, particularly in Rodeo and Eventing.
VERDICT Thorough introductions to horse-related sports are few and far between—good ones are very rare. A first pick.
