Gr 8 Up—In this sequel to
Tyger, Tyger (Clarion, 2010), Teagan and her friends must cope with the aftermath of escaping from the Dark Man's forces as well as new dangers. As she picks up the pieces of her life, Teagan begins a tentative relationship with goblin hunter Finn and struggles with her newly revealed goblin heritage. Though her Highborn goblin blood should call her to a life of darkness and violence, she wants to go to veterinary school and care for sick and abused animals. Meanwhile, the evil Fear Doirich is sending his agents from Mag Mell into the human world to tempt and torment her, and the plucky teen must fight to protect her loved ones. The rich melding of Irish folklore and fantasy is helped along by a charming (if somewhat overpopulated) cast and an easy, unforced spirituality, and fans of the first book will welcome the new adventures and fresh revelations in this installment.—
Christi Esterle, Parker Library, COIn her second book, high schooler Teagan (who found out in Tyger, Tyger that she's half-goblin) is back safely from Mag Mell. While she, her little brother Aiden, and love interest Finn Mac Cumhaill (Finn MacCool from Irish folklore) regroup at home in Chicago, wicked forces track them. Well-incorporated folklore elements blend nicely with everyday concerns (e.g., Teagan's post-high-school plans; best friend/boyfriend rivalry).
