Baby-Toddler–Getting dressed for a light snowfall results in happy play, real and imagined. A father with brown skin and black hair dresses his preschooler, who goes on to interact with a delightful menagerie of animals and a younger sibling, with an emphasis on hugs for every last one of them. One or two lines of rhyming text drives the story through loving scenes: “I’m going to give you a seal hug. A whiskers and nose, laugh when it snows, my toes are froze hug.” Colorful illustrations complement the text, showing domestic scenes of stuffed animals at play as well as scenes with a polar bear, fox, rabbits, reindeer, cardinals, penguins, walrus, and more. The title wraps up with the child pulling a sleigh of the toy animals who had starring roles in the winter adventure.
VERDICT This lighthearted read packs a lot into a board book, and will be popular with families of small children, especially on the first day of snow.
