Here, Little Pip wakes each morning excited, only to be told that there are still a few days before Christmas. Daddy Grizzle finds different ways of distracting Little Pip; finding their Christmas tree, writing and delivering their holiday cards, wrapping presents. A spread with dark blue text on black background with just the white of someone's eyes visible perfectly illustrates Little Pip's surprise and joy when the big day finally arrives. "WAKE UP! I think it's Christmas Day!" a bear cub tells his dad each of several mornings before Christmas. This non-preachy lesson in delayed gratification has father and son filling time by choosing their Christmas tree one day, making Christmas cards the next, and so on. Like the text, the illustrations are aggressively targeting "cute" and "cozy"--and hit their mark.
