Toddler-PreS—This delightful counting book focuses on several round-bellied animal mamas and their babies. Endpapers offer a preview of the cute wee ones on the inside—kittens, lambs, mice, fish, chicks, and piglets. The art, composed of paintings and cut-paper images, is appealing, with colorful backgrounds and smiling faces. Sturdy pages make it fun for toddlers to turn the half-page flaps, revealing different animals. Counting sequences are unpredictable, with numbers moving from three to five, seven, eight, 11, and "many, many more." Though the tone of this simple, translated text is a bit irregular, it is unlikely to prevent young listeners from engaging with the tale.
