K-Gr 2–Cute and colorful cartoon illustrations accompany a book of jokes and riddles that children will enjoy sharing with peers and adults. Touching on holidays from Valentine’s Day through Christmas, the jests follow the usual two-line format, combining a question and answer. For example: “What did the paper clip say to the magnet? I find you very attractive.” Knock-knock jokes, a favored format of youngsters, are included in several of the sections. Each chapter is presented in a picture frame and features funny illustrations that embellish almost every page. A definition of the word “holiday,” as well as a list of nonreligious holidays, are included in boxes set off to the side in two of the chapters. The book concludes with information on the benefits of laughter, a glossary, and fun facts.
VERDICT Whether eliciting groans, smiles, or laughter, this book should keep children entertained for hours.
