Gr 9 Up–Indie has felt ignored since her sister’s TV show
Immortal Nights exploded in popularity. Her dad is Violet’s manager, and she has had to take care of herself, as her mom lives on the other side of the country, fulfilling her dream of being a concert violinist. Things come to a head when Indie leaves Violet alone at New York Comic Con and runs into musician Xander from the Heartbreakers; Xander is also feeling ignored in his band. Together, the two expand their worlds and branch out as Indie considers whether she really wants to go to Julliard for violin or perhaps study special effects makeup, the thing that brought her and Xander together. The characters are well-developed and believable, and the romance comes sweet and easy. Teens will love this romantic comedy even if they haven’t read any other titles in the series. Main characters cue white.
VERDICT A strong purchase where romantic comedies are popular.
