Gr 2–6—The Green Lantern returns in this animated series in which he and his team find a world destroyed by their enemies, the Red Lanterns and Atrocitus. They discover a young girl who is left behind in the destruction. She is not what she seems, and while in contact with her, the Green Lantern enters a trancelike state and "sees" what transpired to cause such chaos. The superhero must use his wit and perseverance to help this refugee, and the hidden truth about her existence explains why she must stay on this devastated plane alone. The cartoony illustrations are well done and they help enhance the quick and simple text. The narrative is easy to follow and brings the adventure to life. The spare language makes this graphic novel one that children of all ages could enjoy.—Katie Wilkinson, Gar-Field High School, Woodbridge, VA
Lettering by Saida Temofonte. Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and alien Kilowog, along with their sentient computer Aya, defend the galaxy against sinister threats in another adaptation of the animated TV series. An action-packed plot and quippy dialogue bolster the satisfactory cartoon-panel art and long-winded exposition. Fans of the show may enjoy visiting with the characters. "Visual Questions" are appended. Glos.
