Toddler-PreS–The recent trend of “booing” friends and neighbors on Halloween is front and center in this bright, friendly interactive Halloween picture book that brings readers along as various characters, including a ghost, a witch, a skeleton, and more, distribute treats among their friends. The rhyming, repetitive text creates a sense of fun and anticipation as each character is revealed behind a door that readers can open themselves: “She has a treat, but who’s it for? Knock, knock! Guess who?” In addition to the interactive elements, Oliyko’s sweet, not-scary illustrations feature many whimsical details that kids will delight in pointing out, like the spider’s eight mismatched boots and the unique door for each Halloween friend that will encourage a guessing game.
VERDICT This title is a great read-aloud for toddler story times.
