Gr 8 Up—This book contains an interesting overview of jobs that fall beneath the "green" umbrella. Farrell writes in clear prose about the wide range of career opportunities that students with environmental interests can pursue. She focuses on four fields: green architect, organic farmer, professional conservationist, and alternative-energy expert. For each section, the author presents a description of the work involved, the education and experience needed, and the interpersonal skills that the job requires. Her advice and assessments are spot-on, and she clearly has experience in giving career advice. Her tone is serious, but not stultifying, and she makes no bones about the hard work required to get any of these positions. Also helpful is her analysis of the growth in various green job markets. If students can get past the generic cover, they will have a good source of career advice in their hands. A list of professional organizations, a glossary, source notes (very current), and index are included.—Denise Schmidt, San Francisco Public Library
