K-Gr 2—In this quirky and original tale, friends Here and There just can't seem to get together. Here is always stuck here, while There is always over there. Their distance, though, does not deter the two from being good friends and writing letters back and forth. One day, There has a great idea; with a slight tweak and some repositioning, There becomes Here, and they can be in the same place. Although the adjustment is temporary, the friends are still happy because they know that they are never more than one letter apart. With vivid and varied illustrations, this pun-filled story encourages letter knowledge and print and phonological awareness. Older children will be able to pick up on the more subtle humor.
VERDICT A sweet addition to larger collections, especially those with a focus on early literacy.
