PreS-Gr 2–A young girl, her younger sibling, and their father make their way to the library, where there might be a special book waiting. After a brief pitstop at the park to fly the girl’s seahorse kite, the family enters a building full of books where a librarian hands the girl a special title about seahorses. Around the library, other young readers are enjoying their own books, their minds full of questions, ideas, imagination, and hope for the future. The protagonist goes on to find wonderful stories to take home from the library and share with her younger sibling. Short Spanish sentences make up the text, often only featuring few words per spread. The soft and pleasing illustrations rendered in ink, watercolor, and pastel, bring the beauty of books and libraries to life: highlighting the beautiful day outside, zooming in on a word in a book, and showing young patrons surrounded by volumes that, if readers look closely, can be identified as real titles. The book’s characters are diverse, with varied skin tones.
