PreS—A simple yet energetic text and friendly illustrations combine to make this board book a fun choice for Hanukkah. Focusing on the number eight and its significance for the holiday, the singsong rhyme moves swiftly with several clever word choices: "A fancy table fixed for eight-/Grandma loves to decorate./Dad serves eight latkes from the plate./'There's more,' he says, 'don't hesitate.'" Pastel illustrations depicting a happy family gathering are pleasant and predictable, though unfortunately the book lacks any representation of the numeral 8. Still, it is a solid addition for holiday shelves.—Teri Markson, Los Angeles Public Library
