Gr 9 Up—The 123 entries in
Drugs discuss illegal and pharmacy-provided drugs, with many offering a "key facts" panel that details the classification of the substance in the U.S., Canada, the UK, and by the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB); the drug's street names, effects, and dangers; and signs of abuse.
Substance Abuse's 107 entries impart information on hotlines, intervention, denial, self-esteem, sensitization, stress, and treatment options. In both books, the alphabetically arranged entries are clear and accurate, range in length from one to five pages, and conclude with "see-also" references. The illustrative matter is above average and will add to readers' understanding-the photographs, including one in Drugs of youth participating in a Bwiti ritual using ibogaine, can be striking. Back matter in each title features a glossary with helpful diagrams, a detailed index, an accessible drug table, and a further-resource list (the latter two resources are identical in each volume). Attractive layouts encourage browsing. Comprehensive additions.—
