PreS-Gr 1—This is a heartwarming selection about a girl and her bunny. After Bunny asks his owner about her favorite thing in the world, she reflects on their times together. Naturally, Bunny is the best part. She starts by remembering what a great friend Bunny is, beginning with his help in getting ready in the morning. The illustration shows Bunny holding a red sock while his mistress sits on a chair in a room with socks strewn all over the floor. "I like the mornings, when you wake me up and help me find my shoes and socks." A sentence or two of text complements illustrations on each page. Earth-tone colors dominate the illustrations. The girl and Bunny have many adventures, including playing outside with friends, traveling to the zoo, and watching stars. Some of those times are funny and happy, and others require the support of a good friend. Bunny offers empathy when the girl is scared of the chimpanzee at the zoo. "You are the bravest bunny I know, and when you hold my hand, I feel braver, too." This charming volume ends on a high note with Bunny reading his pal a bedtime story. "I like your stories. They are very good and they give me good dreams."
VERDICT A solid offering about friendship that makes a simple and soothing bedtime tale.
