PreS-K—Daniel is a friendly young tiger who discovers basic life skills through play. Throughout the four episodes, he learns about picking out appropriate clothing, trying new things, using his imagination, and moving on after mistakes. When Daniel goes outside to play with his friend Elaina, he argues with his mom over what to wear. She wants him to wear a hat and gloves, but he wants to stay dressed as an astronaut. Daniel quickly finds that it is best to "think about what you're going to do and pick the clothes that are right for you." In another episode, Daniel becomes nervous about sledding down a large hill. His father suggests starting further down the hill because trying something new can be scary and it helps to break it down into smaller steps. The lessons learned by Daniel are universally applicable to every child and easy to put to use. The characters are fairly one-dimensional, which is appropriate for a short animated series that is geared toward pre-K and kindergarten kids. The animation style is computer generated and very simple, bright, and cheery. Some segments have a short clip of human neighbors who demonstrate the life skills that were just taught.
VERDICT This would be great for free time in a classroom but may be best used by caregivers and their children.
