Two children and their grandfather watch from outside before heading in to clean up the mess. The book focuses on the paired long and short vowel “u” words and the silent “e.” Illustrations are colorful, if somewhat flat. Three pages of phonics and family engagement back matter give adults sharing with young readers ideas and support in extending the reading activity. This short phonics reader is part of a multibook decodable set and is available only in paperback.
VERDICT Best purchased as part of the series for a classroom or homeschool setting.
