Chasing Before

Gr 9 Up—It has been four months since Felicia defeated the evil Morati angels who threatened everything in Level 2 of the Afterlife. Now Felicia and her boyfriend, Neil, are in Level 3 and hoping for a calmer existence. Between trying to pick an Afterlife career (Muse or Fighter of the Morati?) and wondering why Neil seems to be pushing her away, Felicia desperately tries to recover her memories that were stolen by the Morati. As mysterious explosions target Level 3, she soon finds that regaining her memories may cost her all she values. Cynthia Holloway does a nice job narrating, expressing emotion and creating different voices for the characters. The series would interest fans of other afterlife fiction, such as Gabrielle Zevin's Elsewhere and Neil Shusterman's Everlost. However, this audiobook is not a stand-alone entry. Much of the plot is built on the previous book, so purchase this only where Level 2 is popular.—Julie Paladino, East Chapel Hill High School, NC
