Gr 10 Up—This collection of single cartoons and comic strips chronicles the ups and downs of owning, and loving, cats. They destroy the narrator's furniture, dream of clawing her into a bloody mess, and track hair in her artisanal cheese, but she continues to love them. The illustrations are playfully primitive and very humorous. Somehow Surovec manages to convey a variety of expressions without giving any of her human protagonists noses, teeth, or eyebrows. Teen cat owners may enjoy this, but its true audience is with adults: the main character is a married woman whose friends pressure her to have babies.—Lisa Goldstein, Brooklyn Public Library, NY
