Bad Creek

Gr 8 Up–June creates an immersive world in this debut. Iris and her moms return to Bad Creek after her older sister Glory’s unfortunate drowning there last summer, and Iris is determined to find the answers to questions she’s been asking for a year. With her friends Gum and Aidan by her side, both plagued by their own problems, Iris is ready to do whatever it takes to get her answers. As this book is told from three different perspectives, readers get to see what is bothering each teen and how losing a lifelong friend is affecting them. Aidan thinks he’s to blame but is trying to put the blame on Gum’s cousin, Hudson. Gum is becoming the chosen one amongst his family, replacing Hudson, which may or may not be good, especially since he is gay. Iris is finding weird boxes of old possessions and being tormented by sudden sleepwalking. This book will have readers on the edge of their seats to figure out what is going on and how to save Bad Creek.
