Gr 3–5—Hands-on activities to support the science curriculum are always in demand. These are grouped into various scientific disciplines. The materials needed are mostly common household goods, which keeps cost and inconvenience to a minimum. Step-by-step directions for each experiment along with photos show the process for easy replication. Activities vary from creating a water wheel to a working model lung. Special note is made when adult help will be needed. A "Test Your Know-How" section is located in the back matter, along with the answers. Though the covers of the book feature girls and boys, the humorous cartoon mascot in the books is a pale, crazy-haired scientist in a lab coat and the process photos all depict a pair of white, possibly adult, hands.
VERDICT A helpful series for lessons, science fairs, or STEM events at school, with potential for at-home use as well.
