Gr 2–4—It can be tempting to load up on Minecraft and other game guides in the hope of snagging kids who prefer gaming to reading. Unfortunately, books on the subject have been known to prompt derision or even animosity from players. This series offers very little new information, even for beginners, and provides only a few sets of instructions, which may frustrate dedicated Minecrafters. However, the information presented in the set is accurate, and it's likely that kids with prior knowledge will read these books closely, with a high degree of analytical attention—a plus for educators, too.
VERDICT High-interest titles with low utility. Consider for large collections.
