PreS-Gr 1—Two animals are compared on each spread using interactive elements. The ordinary opposites are provided, e.g., "Heavy Hippo/Light Butterfly," "Short Dog/Tall Giraffe," and Fat Pig/Thin Meerkat," but some less predictable pairings are also included, such as "Still Sloth/Bouncy Kangaroo," "Smooth Frog/Spiky Porcupine," and "Quiet Rabbit/Loud Lion." Some pages have flaps while others provide a pop-up version of the animal. Horácek's bright watercolor washes fill the majority of the background with enough balance of white on the opposite page to showcase the realistically colored animals. Kids will love the engaging illustrations and will be drawn to the book again and again despite the simple content because of the hands-on manipulations.
