PreS-Gr 4–Translated from French, this good-hearted and cheerfully goofy book about what Santa Claus should never do will appeal to children with a sense of the absurd. The book states different things that Santa should never do, and then generally showing through humorous, cartoonish illustrations why each thing would be a bad idea. Some of the illustrations are extremely droll, such as the one featuring a rather disapproving child munching on an Easter egg and watching in consternation as Santa confuses Easter with Christmas. The happy ending puts all right in Santa’s and in children’s worlds again.
VERDICT While not a necessary purchase, this lighthearted story will appeal to those looking for some humor in their holiday reading.
