PreS-Gr 2–Adorably illustrated animals will captivate even the youngest readers, from babies up to kids in second grade. Children are introduced to wild animals, farm animals, and pets in this Christmas tale that centers around the wait for Santa. The background is rather simple, which allows little ones to focus on the creatures. Each page features two sentences that play on words and match the showcased animal. For example, “I’ve goat you to hold, on cold winter days. For chilly nose kisses, I love you always.” The page opposite contains a big goat and a baby goat smiling tenderly at one another. Written in a lyrical rhythm and rhyme, kids will certainly enjoy having this excellent story around the holidays.
VERDICT A nice purchase for libraries wishing to add to their board book section or increase their Christmas picture book collection.
