PreS-Gr 2—When sisters work together, they can do anything, even in the face of disaster. Alice and Lucy are bears. They are also sisters who love doing everything together. However, Lucy no longer wants to sleep in the same bed as her little sister. While reading the paper (which has some great inside jokes that adults will enjoy), they see that the local furniture store has bunk beds on sale. When Alice points out that they don't have any money, they decide to get a job. They find one at the bakery and are hired by the baker rabbit for a seemingly easy job that requires them only to make sure that a certain cake stays safe. Hilarity ensues when that plan goes awry, but the sisters succeed in the end. This book is great for exploring the relationship between siblings. Anyone with sisters or brothers will relate to Alice and Lucy. All of the characters are animals, and the illustrations are effective and pair well with the text. The detail and color will attract readers and help the story to flow very well.
VERDICT A delightful book that can be used as a tool for teaching many different lessons; a great read-aloud or read-alone choice.
