K-Gr 2–An endearing picture book that showcases the lengths readers will go to find the perfect book. Bear loves listening to a young blue-haired girl, Ellen, read different types of books under a tree. When Bear wants to find a book, Ellen suggests different locations that are absolutely filled with books, such as a library and bookstore. The bear, wearing different disguises in order to blend in, goes off to pick out their perfect book. Unfortunately, Bear and Ellen always get caught by the various employees at the locations they frequent and are chased out. The ending is predictable but sweet. Bright colors and fun details make this a picture book that children will want to examine again after a first reading.
VERDICT Whether showcasing the joys of reading or expanding a collection on friendship, this lovely book is one to seek out.
