The Black Caucus of the American Library Association released its 2023 Best of the Best Books list. The titles are divided into three categories: PreK–4, Grades 5–8, and Grades 9–12.

To meet the criteria for the list, books must: be written and illustrated by Black/African American creators; celebrate, honor, and represent the diversity of the Black/African American experience in the United States and abroad; accurately and authentically portray the stories of Black/African American leaders; include but not be limited to cultural, historical, social/emotional topics and themes relevant to the Black/African American experience; and serve the educational and/or recreational needs of the community.
