Gr 4-7–An informative text on current programs that are helping our planet and what everyday people can do to combat climate change. The text is separated into three areas of protection: land, forests, and water, in which the author explains the science on why our planet is warming. Tam Wu writes an accessible book that can be read for pleasure or research. Each chapter begins with vocabulary words and includes many sidebars and captions, a “What You Can Do” section, and an “Action Figure” —people in roles that can effect meaningful environmental change. Students, especially younger ones, will be hooked by paragraph headlines, such as ‘Blow Your Nose with Your Cereal Box’ and ‘Drink Pee.’ This is a well-researched and visually pleasing addition to climate change and environmental activism titles. A glossary, index, and additional resources are included.
