Gr 9 Up—Cobain, a young man in high school, is being questioned by the police about his missing girlfriend. Cobain doesn't know what happened to her and he doesn't understand why he is a suspect in Molly's disappearance. They were happy together—as far as he can remember. The story switches between the teens' perspectives and moves from the present day to when their relationship started a few months ago. The alternating narration will disorient readers, as Molly's lying and manipulation disoriented Cobain. While he is dealing with being the prime suspect, he is also trying to figure out what happened to her, and realizing that their relationship isn't quite what he thought it was. Scott's thriller moves quickly between voices and time lines and unfolds slowly. While the book is character driven, readers never really fully understand the characters' motivations. Teens must wait until the end to uncover the truth.
VERDICT Good for any reader who likes a thriller that keeps them guessing until the very last page. A general purchase.
