Gr 9 Up–A young heiress on the run accidentally trips over a policeman with her walking stick, and he can’t help but feel a sense of protectiveness for the woman who is blind and trying to live her life independently from her wealthy family. Before he knows it, he offers her a job at the station answering phones and helps fill her closet with fashionable clothes. Presented in vignettes, this reads more like an art book dedicated to beautiful clothing, with precious moments savored sporadically between the two lead characters. The pacing is akin to a designer’s concept sketchbook with a romantic storyline interwoven between the model illustrations. The full-color pages are beautiful, and the constant chapter breaks with full-page inserts of the two main characters in different scenes are gorgeous additions to unpack.
VERDICT This may be a fun series for art students but might not have broad appeal for the everyday manga reader. Recommended for larger collections with students interested in art or in collaboration with art classes.
