Gr 10 Up–Hayan Park is trying to lead a normal life as a college student, even though she’s an orphan living next to a Catholic church, and there are vicious vampire attacks throughout her city almost every night, and she happens to be a pure-blood vampire who can hide her true form. Police are investigating, but the students are growing restless. Hayan just wants to make a few friends, get a degree, and make Father Michael proud. Beyond Hayan’s jubilant spirit and need to befriend others, the book offers some exciting action sequences and narrative tone shifts that keep the reader guessing where the story will go next. The color illustrations have a gorgeous amount of detail in each panel, down to the textures and folds of fabrics, or the accuracy on close-ups of character facial expressions. Lim has taken care to bring every scene to life with a carefully considered color palette for each moment or space.
