PreS-Gr 1—Mary is pig-tailed nursery rhyme aficionado whose mash-up of "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star" is causing great consternation between her stuffed lamb and toy star. When she sings, "Twinkle, twinkle, little Lamb, How I wonder what you—" the lamb insists that she is mixed up, while the star loves the rendition where it gets to have "fleece as white as snow." They eventually sort out the verses and Mary's mother lets her know its time for school. On the ride there, she launches into a rousing, if unusual, version of "The Wheels on the Bus." Young children will find the humor in these mixed up lines and enjoy helping to sort out the right rhyming words.
VERDICT The cheerful sketches and cacophony of music notes make this perfect for storytimes and music classes for the very young.
