Gr 6-8–In today’s world, people face information overload. This book breaks down how to question current events and issues. Debbink offers ideas on how to gather information, not just from the internet, but from our surroundings, and shares tips and skills on how to evaluate the information. Readers are given the tools to critically analyze what they read, and to debate ideas fairly and with respect for those who don’t share their ideologies. The book features a very comprehensible and clear narrative. Entertaining illustrations accompany the text so that it doesn’t look like a standard textbook. However, if readers don’t pick this up on their own, it might be a tough sell.
VERDICT A great tool for young readers who take information found online at face value. Educators and librarians could easily use excerpts of this book to teach research and information literacy skills.
