Gr 4-7–A magic-filled adventure with a side of mystery for graphic novel lovers. A girl appears in a fantastic land, not remembering who she is or anything about her past. Readers soon learn that she is Copenhagen, a girl with a robotic bird named Lawrence assigned to care for her. They are both in the Library of Memories, a place where objects have Raw Memorat, the energy source made from the essence of memories. Through interacting with objects, Copenhagen enters different memories, both forgetting more and more who she is and making the memories stronger. Desperately searching for her identity, Copenhagen and Lawrence go on a hunt for answers. This graphic novel features stunning illustrations, many heavily inspired by manga traits and aesthetics. Vibrant pictures contrast with the dull coloring that indicates objects no longer have Raw Memorat, which is an effective way to aid the storytelling. With rich facial and body expressions, Copenhagen is a charismatic main character, and readers will cheer for her as she continues to search for her identity.
VERDICT A bold, creative story, strongly recommended for upper elementary and middle school collections where graphic novels are in demand.
