Gr 3–5—Britannica stays true to its roots with this earnest, well-researched series. There are plenty of details, but thanks to the straightforward tone and a museum's curatorial approach to image selection and placement, the content is never cramped or overwhelming. Content is comprehensive, covering as it does religion, politics, social mores, geography, and more. Using a kid-friendly economy of words, the author takes great care to explain the social and political differences among the southern, middle, and New England colonies. There is some overlapping of material between The Colonial Period and The American Revolution but not so much that it should deter buyers.
VERDICT A worthwhile purchase for most libraries.
