PreS-Gr 1–The poetic imaginings of a girl who ponders what she would write if she were an author. With the power of her pencil, she creates stories about trolls and giants and fashions myths of unicorns, mermaids, and talking bears; she peoples her world with robots, elves, and fairies. If she were a writer there would be no wars, and she would sail away on a boat to mystical lands. Life would be a poem, and her tales would always have happy endings. Beautiful watercolor images and lyrical language will immerse readers in the girl’s creative world. With very little white space, every page is a symphony of vibrant colors. There is so much to pore over, and readers will find something new with each sitting. The spare text and wondrous art combine to celebrate the magic and beauty of storytelling.
VERDICT This would make a wonderful read-aloud and still be successful as a one-on-one.
