PreS-K–Starting with a brief glimpse of our solar system and planets, then scanning far below to the continents, this colorful title is an excellent introduction to our Earth for the very young. The spinning pop-up globe is sure to be the highlight of this book, which features bold Disney-esque art, as it travels among the continents, as well as Oceania (yet no specific countries are included). While the information is typical—this is really more of an intro to both the globe and to nonfiction—its format invites engagement. What do you see? Where is the camel? Where is the ocean? Highlights, including landmarks and animals, are treated as pop-out boxes, again providing another entry for engagement with a parent or educator. The book briefly touches on the presence of Indigenous peoples and climate change, although only peripherally. The style and design of this book are its forte, inviting younger readers into their first foray into geography.
VERDICT A charming introduction, but the pop-up element might make it a challenge for public libraries.
