Each movement includes examples of famous works of art, basic information (title, artist's name and nationality, and year painted) on the piece, and a brief discussion. A brief "Think About…" sidebar provides talking points to help explore each piece in more depth. Two relevant projects follow each piece of art, accompanied by four to six steps with visuals, a supply list, and tips. For instance, Frida Kahlo's "My Monkey Friend" is accompanied by project involving mirror drawing and another creating animal silhouettes. Back matter includes brief biographies of the artists, artistic pointers, and information on where the cited artwork can be found.
VERDICT A well-organized introduction to modern art concepts, perfect for classroom use.
