Gr 4–6—This series supplies the how-to's of navigating reference sources when conducting research. Each book contains three to five chapters and several activities. Four of the volumes define and explain the best strategies for using a thesaurus, atlas, dictionary, or encyclopedia. The remaining titles deal with online research, focusing heavily on etiquette, privacy, and safety issues. Cyber bullying, legitimacy of sources, and deciding what personal information is appropriate to share online are just some of the topics discussed. All volumes contain colorful, although merely decorative graphics (including a few too many photos of students engaging with the featured reference material), and text boxes with suggestions and additional information. The bonus material addresses the dangers of the Web in a nonthreatening way. An adequate set to introduce reference sources.
