As she unravels the truth behind the automaton's identity and the political plot that caused his entrapment, Nimira becomes desperate to save him. Dolamore writes with passion, creating a fantasy world where love conquers dark magic and a music-hall girl can rescue a prince.
The alternative-historical setting is charming and convincing, as is Nimira’s nostalgia for her home, Tiansher. The automaton adds a fascinating steampunk element. The sorcery and magic of this imagined world are plausible and naturally integrated into the characters’ experiences and motivations. The romantic subplot and the mysteries surrounding the curse placed on the automaton fill the story with intrigue. The writing is original and fresh.
