PreS-A silly story about a young girl's search for her missing blue shoe. In this rhyming scramble, the child fruitlessly searches her home, top to bottom, for her matching pair so she can attend a friends birthday party. While the majority of the story focuses on a dizzy exploration, it ends with a charming reminder to always be yourself and be on time for cake. Lizzy, her home, and a silly white cat are illustrated with colorful brush strokes that use shadow, angles, and line work to create dimension and give depth to the setting of the story. These bright images dominate the page and harmoniously follow the script to drive the adventure forward. The text is in a fun, easy-to-read font and always relates to the images being shown. The language level is elementary and approachable for young readers.
VERDICT The character's silly actions create a humorous story that is great for reading aloud as well as one-on-one sharing. A fun picture book addition.-Haley Amendt, Hinton Municipal Library, Alberta
