Gr 8 Up–The friend group known as the Eizouken—Midori, Tsubame, and Sayaka—are at it again as they continue their arduous journey to make their very own sci-fi anime into a reality. In this volume, the Eizouken have been commissioned by the school’s Robot Club to feature one of their creations in an anime format. While this is a fantastic opportunity to boast their talents, obstacles such as time and cost management, plus the scouting of a suitable location for the anime’s setting, will attempt to derail the Eizouken’s vision. With the second volume of this award-winning title arriving here stateside, there is solid character development from all three protagonists. Each one has their own issues, with each also clearly working their hardest toward overcoming these barriers and being the best they can be. The artwork is fantastic, from the facial expressions to the settings and backgrounds. The title’s biggest asset is its dialogue. The comedy is genuine, while the discourse exchanged among the protagonists regarding the creation of anime is both informational and enjoyable for readers all at once.
VERDICT One of the best titles from the last calendar year, and one that shouldn’t be overlooked by those looking to work in the animation industry someday.
