PreS-Gr 1–Perhaps no one is better at distilling big ideas down to simple board book concepts than Paprocki, who never seems daunted by the topic but just digs right in. “F is for flashlight,” and “G is for granola bar,” but “K is for knapsack,” which feels with that silent letter K like a plot twist, and “N is for night sky.” Diverse families scamper across these pages that overflow with natural settings, camping and hiking details, and different seasons; the book only falters on “eXtra,” the Achilles’ heel of ABC books.
VERDICT For shelves about the great outdoors, here’s a way to invite young children into the joys of hiking and connecting with nature.
