PreS-Gr 2–When Sally’s mother reminds her that Nico is coming over to play, Sally says he can’t play with her favorite squirrel, because it is her squirrel. Come to think of it, Nico also can’t play with her train, her dollhouse, and he can’t jump on her bed. Sally begins to fill her large wardrobe with all the things Nico can’t play with, including her mother! But when she remembers that perhaps Eva might come over, she decides maybe she needs to hide Nico as well. The wardrobe is about to burst and when Sally opens the door, everything comes spilling out! Readers will laugh at Sally’s facial expressions as she gathers all of the things that are hers, and will undoubtedly understand her feelings of perhaps not wanting to share everything, especially some of our most special things. The Spanish text is just as humorous as Sally’s expressions, with the colorful, pencil-like illustrations on notebook paper showing the disarray Sally creates as she tries to hide everything in the house. Readers will have fun turning the pages and seeing everything change quickly, reaching a humorous climax.
VERDICT This hilarious picture book is a fun way to discuss sharing and a great choice for Spanish-language children’s collections.
