Gr 2—4—Vivid writing (Land Roamers describes how "The giant millipede Arthropleura was as big as your bed!") lifts these otherwise ordinary surveys a bit above average. Despite being printed in three sizes of typeface, the narratives are roughly consistent in level of detail throughout. The art combines photos of fossils, distribution maps, illustrations of prehistoric monsters eyeing viewers or charging them with toothy mouths open, and, on each spread, a human silhouette to indicate scale. "Wild Guide" picture galleries with basic facts about each set of extinct creatures close every volume.
