K-Gr 2—A straightforward approach to Earth's various bodies of water for beginning readers. The layout in each title follows a standard format: large text on one side of each spread and a full-page, uncaptioned photograph on the opposite side. Simple sentences provide a definition of the titular topic and offer information about additional characteristics, including some of the flora and fauna that inhabit surrounding areas. Unfamiliar words are repeated at the end of each volume and include a definition and pronunciation.
VERDICT No bells and whistles here, just fundamental concepts and beautiful photographs. Appropriate for building literacy skills and science content knowledge.
