Recommended for upper middle grade based on content. This horror title may not be suitable for younger readers. The pacing is well done and the main characters are relatable. However, the book leaves many unanswered questions that relate directly to the plot and character development.
Teens who enjoyed Courtney Summers’s Sadie or Kathleen Glasgow’s Girl in Pieces will be invested. A standout choice for high school libraries where these titles circulate well.
Despite the laudable topic, the sparse content and lack of balance make these volumes of little value. Children will be better served by Kathleen Krull's Lives of Extraordinary Women: Rulers, Rebels (and What the Neighbors Thought) (HMH, 2000) and Grosset & Dunlap's "Who Was" and "Who Is" series for more thorough explorations of notable individuals.
