There’s a lot to want to love about this book, but, ultimately, it’s impossible to cheer on the romance between the leads, and it fails to deliver on all of its plot points.
This is an impressive debut novel and an author to watch. Readers will identify strongly with Sadie and her journey as she struggles to cope with trauma and let go of her secrets.
Readers will be hooked by the initial plot and able to overlook the flaws that plague the final third of the book. A good choice for most YA sci-fi shelves.
The consistent strong language, graphic violence, and harrowing situations, including human trafficking and rape, make this a better choice for readers ready to tackle mature content, but the book's poor execution overall makes this an easy pass.
